Baby Grace
posted by Mom on February 16, 2006

Our friends' daughter, Grace, passed away unexpectedly yesterday. You may remember her from previous posts - she was the first to have a certain in-utero procedure to help with her HLHS and had made news all around the world. Some of you had emailed us to let us know you had seen the segment on CNN.

Grace had been doing really well, so this comes as a shock to everyone. She was five weeks old.

Jay and I are really struggling with this - both out of sadness for Grace's family and for the real-life reminder of what Sammy's up against. Please, please send some love, thoughts and prayers to Grace and her family - I can't imagine what they're going through.

Hi Jason and Erika,

I just popped on to see if there was any news on baby Samsons arrival and read your post about baby Grace. I am so sorry for your friends, they are in my thoughts and prayers. Try to stay positive and know we are all praying for you.

oh, that's just terrible. There is nothing more sad or harder to face than when a heart friend loses their child. You never forget the first one (as terrible as that sounds).

Be prepared for "survivor's guilt". If you need to talk, please contact me - I've been there and it's a very difficult thing to deal with ...

Give Samson some belly rubs from us.

I know how hard it is to hear of your friends lossing their child and the fear gripping you as well. I never even knew what people faced until Corbin's birth. Know that baby Grace lived only a short while but touched millions of people. She raised more awarenss in her short 5 weeks than we could ever hope for. She made medical history with her procedure and continues to offer hope to many. She completed more in her short five weeks than any of us could ever hope to do.
We are praying for all three of you. Know that your little Monkey has a beautiful journey to make soon into this world and we all are praying for you.
