Twenty-two months
posted by Mom on December 13, 2007
You have GOT to be kidding me.
You have GOT to be kidding me.

Wow - has it really been three months since I last updated? As always, Munchkin man is keeping us busy. He's non-stop energy! And the talking - oh, the talking!

Cuteness, for our records and so you can all gag with the sappy mommy-ness of it all:

  1. He's taken to forming 3, 4 and 5 word sentences now. His favorite thing is to ask, "Where did (fill in the blank) go? Maybe... over there? Maybe... in mamadada room? Maybe... downstairs?" He taps his little finger against his cheek while saying, "Maybe..." and then he pauses, as though he's giving real thought and consideration to where whatever it is might be.
  2. Playing hide and seek, usually where he's the one hiding and we check the most ridiculous places for him ("Is Sammy in the... garbage can?") - and he answers with this tiny little, "Noooooooooo" from wherever he is.
  3. "Oh no... toes! Not the toes!" He lifts his foot up and wiggles his toes at us, and we scream in faux-panic. He falls over in fits of giggles, all while trying to wiggle his toes at us and waiting for the screaming. Not sure why it's so funny, but it really, really is.
  4. Blues Clues. Anything that's the shape of a pawprint or handprint is suddenly "Boo clue!" Happy Monster Band. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald. And unfortunately, STILL Dora. (Speaking of the Mickey crew, he had four figurines, one of each of them. Donald has been missing for close to a month and he asks for him every night. Just the other day, we think we got it out of him. Where Donald?, he asked. Then he tapped his finger on his cheek and said, "Maybe.... garbage?" He went through a garbage-can obsession for a week or so, and we fear that Donald Duck may have met an unfortunate fate.)
  5. Labeling the color of everything and then telling us what it is not: Shirt is red - not blue. Red!
  6. Playing "band" - insisting we put on Happy Monster Band, and then handing each of us an instrument so we can all play along. The cutest part? He counts off before we're allowed to play: "1, 2, 3..." and then we can start strumming the "gee" or banging the drums or playing the recorder (which, the moment he saw it, he called a "clar-net", something he probably picked up from all the Little Einsteins he used to watch).
  7. Princess, our cat. Oh, the torture she puts up with! He loves laying on her and hugging her. He hasn't yet gotten that he should not, under any circumstances, try to ride her like a horse. It's just a matter of time before she takes a good swipe at him, I'm sure.
  8. Presents. He may not "get" that Santa brings the presents (because so far, the mailman and his grandparents have brought them all), but man, he understands presents, opening presents, wanting presents, asking for presents, announcing that there are no more presents - you get the picture

In heart news: we're waiting on his cath date, which will be sometime in January. The thought of it makes me sick, so I'm making a strong effort not to think about it. Fontan still on track for May or June. I'm really hoping I go back into the denial phase again soon. It may not be healthy, but it's a lot easier than having to deal with thinking about what lies ahead.

I'm not going to end on that note, so I'll end on this: we are just a mere two months away from Sammy's second birthday. Everyday he amazes us with the things we were once afraid we may never get to see, and everyday we give thanks and gratitude for each moment we have with him, our little munkin wild man!

Cute stuff!
I just posted a similar entry on our blog yesterday and I PROMISE I didn't steal this idea from you. I just stopped by to check in on Sammy this morning and said, "NO WAY!"

The guitar pic is great. Love it.

If you've recently received an HLHS diagnosis
PLEASE contact us if you want to talk. Having others who have been through this there for us (even when we just needed to freak out!) has been so, so instrumental in coming to terms with what's we're up against.

If you're here because you wanted to show love and support
Thank you! We've been amazed at the influx of wishes and prayers and positive energy sent our way, and we can't begin to express how much that strength and support means to us. Please take a moment and sign the guestbook.

If you're looking for info on HLHS
Please check out the resources. We were overwhelmed with what's availabe on the Internet; hopefully this will narrow it down a little for you. Be sure to read up on all the babies who are doing well - there IS hope!
